Very tough fight. My hat's off to anyone who's been able to beat him playing the game straight. Even with the Editor, there are limitations, like you can only give your spellcasters the maximum of 12 memorization spots per level in their mage books or priest scrolls. Because of this, I only had 6 castings of Dispel Magic available between 2 characters. They went down into that basement with a bunch of protections on all of them, but I had to dispel them right off the bat, due to Aec using his Death Gaze on somebody. And I had to repeat this until I was down to one casting left. Then, Minsc got hit with its Death Gaze, and I didn't want to use up our last casting of Dispel Magic, so I had Khalid shoot him with an Arrow of Dispelling, which served the purpose of saving his life. Had to do this a 2nd time, as well. It was a tactic that saved the day for us. I was afraid that Minsc wouldn't take kindly to that, but he took it in stride, even when I was slow on stopping Khalid and he kept pumping these arrows into him. Oops . . . sorry, big guy. Will be returning to Baldur's Gate in the next session to get into the rest of Chapter 7 proper.

Great job!!! I wasn't able to do that! Well, that's probably because I'm still on chapter 3. ;) Oh well, someday I'll get there. Good Postings!

Yeah, I could've tried doing the TotSC areas much earlier in my game, but I'm glad I put them off till the beginning of Chapter 7, and that's what I would recommend. The Island of Ice is one evil mage fight after another, some of the werewolf fights on Balduran's Island are quite serious, Durlag's Tower is notable for its multitude of traps and some other serious fights, and the return to Ulgoth's Beard has a few OTHER serious fights. These areas are designed to test our gameplaying mettle, so give yourself plenty of time to get even better at doing things, and to get the levels up on your characters and upgrade their equipment. It might be worth noting that my whole party was up to the experience point cap of 161,000 before they even entered Durlag's Tower, but, then again, I might be setting a record for taking the longest time ever to make it through this game. But I'm playing Baldur's Gate, not Beat The Clock.

Who is he and where is he ill kill him dead

Aec'Letec is the demon who's responsible for the evil infesting Durlag's Tower (the Demonknight you have to kill there is a subordinate of his, who, I think, was preparing the tower for the arrival of Aec). When you return to Ulgoth's Beard and enter the basement of the cult house, you're just in time for the summoning of Aec, who you must then defeat, after killing the gal who summoned him and 6 cult guards. But Aec can't be killed on this plane, so the best you can do is send him back where he came from. Of course, these are TotSC areas, not available for conquering in the original release of BG.

Ha ha Sig Segorn. I like you post. It's funny :D :D

I'm looking forward to that battle.

try it without the editor. Make sure you have plenty of arrows of dispelling, and use mage slots up with something else ;)

well im really far under durlags tower, the part with the wyverns,
where is the end of it so i can leave i wanna beat it and leave

Easy to kill! Here is where the spell grease comes in. keep most of your team up on the walk with ranged weapons then have your thief loaded with protection cast on him desend down the stairs after all the talk blast the area below with Grease spells then when Aec'Letec and his Cult Agents are slipping around in the grease nail them with everything you have and try to get your thief back to safety then use as many fire balls spells and potions of Explosion on the agents and Demon as you can! but the main thing is you need to kill all the Cult Agents first because they turn into th Aec'Letec as soon as you kill the existing Aec'Letec.
this is one of maybe ten different ways I've killed the Aec'Letec and walked away with my whole team , I could name about 50 ways that don't work and all of your team members are blown to hell but who needs that those 50 ways are easy to find on your own .

Sig Segorn 03-12-2003 07:48 AM

Taran, the cavern with the wyverns is on Level 3 of the Durlag dungeon. You've completed Durlag's Tower when you've defeated the Demonknight, who is in a room beneath Level 4.

CrimsonBlade, I have a hard time jiving up the first thing you said, that Aec'Letec is "easy to kill," with the last thing you said, which was "I could name about 50 ways that don't work and all of your team members are blown to hell, but . . . those 50 ways are easy to find on your own." First of all, although it appears that you have killed Aec when you defeat him, you have really only sent him back to his native plane. Second, from everything I've read, this fight is harder than the one with Sarevok and his buddies at the end of the game, so I don't think you should be characterizing it as "easy." As you touched on, one of the challenging things about it is that you should first kill Tracea Carol and the 6 Cult Guards down there before concentrating attacks on Aec. About your favorite tactics here, is there an actual benefit from using a spell like Grease? Tracea engages you in dialog as soon as you get down there, the Cult Guards aren't supposed to attack you directly, and, though Aec has wings, I never saw him move from the spot he appeared at. I assume you had Free Action on your thief for this, but you didn't say why you had this party member go down to the basement floor alone. Was it for backstabbing attacks? You say to cast a load of protections on one's thief for this, but you neglect to warn players that another challenging thing about this battle is that any party members who get hit by Aec's Death Gaze and don't have it dispelled within 20 seconds will be permanently killed and transformed into Ghouls. Now really, does that sound "easy" for a first-timer?
