It's been years since I played BG1... and even when I did used to play it, I only finished it once, then bought TotSC and did the bonus areas, but never came back to the final battle so Im not sure how it works.

So the situation is this: I have just had the show-down with sarevok in the Palace and the Duke teleported me to the start of the maze that leads underground, but I havent yet done the TotSC extra areas. Should I go do them now before going to the final battle, or can I kill sarevok and then go do Durlags Tower etc ?

also, can i sell sarevoks diary now that Ive made my case to the dukes ? smeone was goig to pay 250 for it (not that I need money, I have like 120,000 and already own more equipment than i will ever need)

When you kill Sarevok it is "GAME OVER".

If you want to, you can go down, through the Thieves' Maze, clear out the Undercity, and then come back up and do other quests. But once you enter the Temple and start fightin', you can never leave.

When you enter the crypt in the hidden city there's a final save game made automatically (like autosave). So you can try and kill Sarevok just to see if you can do it. If you can't or want to explore TotSC areas (I presume you do) you can load final save and go back through the maze to do that.

You can sell the book now. It's useless (as the invitations and all the proofs you had against Sarevok).

Yes go ahead and finish the game just so you can experance the battle with Sarevok and his generals.
then as the Flaming Fist Enforcer said the game will make a final save that you can use when you load the expansion Tales of the Sword Coast, one hint when you load the expansion it will ask you if you would like to convert your saved games (SAY YES) and all your saves will then have TotSC added to them.

But as I said if you have made it to the final battle then go ahead and try to beat Sarevok. If it turns out that you just can't win then load the Expansion and you will be able to gain more levels and find new more powerful weapons and armor not to mention higher level spells and 4 or 5 new areas and Quests one being the best dungeon Quest you will ever experiance took me 5 weeks the first time I played and then you still have the other 4 new quest areas including the tower above the Dungeon and all of it's pit falls and adventure's.

actually I decided not to bother waiting for an answer cause I wanted to keep playing... So I left the thieves maze and the undercity, and just went to Ulgoth's Beard and started the TotSC areas.

by the way - I have beaten all the areas before, including durlag's tower etc and the final battle, but I played it through once and I had already beaten seravok before I installed TotSC, so I used that final save to go off and do TotSC but didnt come back to kill seravok again (as I'd already beaten him once). this time I had TotSC installed from the start, but I wanted to leave those areas untill just before the end.

But I've finished it all now anyway and ended up with a pretty awesome character.

Minsc, Yeslick, Coran, Garrick and my own dualed fighter(3)/Mage(10)

by the end of the game my party was just waltzing through anything, including seravok and compay. the last battle was actually quite easy.

a weird thing I came across when I imported him into BG2... i think his BG1 script doesnt translate into BG2 properly, because he kept hiding in shadows until I changed the script.

SPOILER about Ulgoth's Beard (and this is the end after this)

something I never came across last time was the cult in ulgoths beard after completing durlag's tower. a Tanar'ri ?!?! I nearly $h!t myself when I saw it, but it was an easy kill too... once I realised how it worked... sneaky cultists

Just so you know when you install tales of the sword coast, it modifies the final battle slightly to try to make it harder. It might be worth trying to kill him again.

Does it mean you didn't get back to Ulgoth's Beard after killing the Demonknight? If you did, you would surely find the cultists (you can't miss 'em if you have the dagger), and if you didn't - why?

karlosovic 03-23-2003 09:06 PM

it was a long time ago, maybe I sold the dagger to urdane (or whoever the merchent outside durlags tower is called)... maybe I figured I'd finished it and didnt go back to ulgoths beard... who knows ? I definately killed the demon knight.

btw, people dont listen (or read). I said I already installed TotSC, I also said I completed the game once before, and I also said that Ive now completed the game again after doing all the TotSC areas. I appreciate people taking time to comment, but maybe they should read first and THEN comment.
(I'm not just talking about this post, and not just my posts either... I see it all the time)
