In addition to Ankhegs, I also dislike:

Black Talon Dudes and Ettercaps.

Boooooooooooooooooooooo!!

I like the spiffy arrows I get though...

Hey, hey, calm down, pal.
Get the BTE to fight melee by summoning or get your hasted char. to charge up to them (Girdle of piercing and/or boots of avoidance HIGHLY recommended), and they just cant slash swords as well as they fire the spiffy arrows.

Oh and Ankhegs are easy - get your lowest AC char to be targetted, and FIRE AWAY!

Hope that helps. :D

Well for me it is like:

In addition to Ankhegs, I also like:

Black Talon Dudes and Ettercaps.

They give good XP and are exiting to fight with. That is more than you can say about the kobolds, taslois and xvarts. They are more like fill-ins to make you slow down your exploration pace.

I agree with InsaneBane.

The Ankhegs aren't that hard. Well early in the game they can be tough but later they are no match.

In one of the 2 games I have started (I play them both) I wanted a quick XP rush. I went immediately to the Ankheg farm after visiting the Friendly Arm Inn. I have a party of selfmade multi player characters - and it gave good XP to kill all the Ankhegs (+1 to +2 levels each character).

I had to reload a couple of times, but nothing seriously though. Just kept my mages out of the frontline until they had enough HP.

But then again - the main reason why the Ankhegs were rather easy, might be because I did some 'good dice rolls' when I made my characters (like dex 18 and con 16 (18 for warriors)) :D

Well, I like ankhegs because their look matches their dangerousness and it looks so massive when giant bugs suddenly start popping out of the ground. Their background is also interesting (on one side posing a threat to farmers' lives and on the other side íncreasing crop yield supporting said farmers).

I dislike ettercaps because it is a stupid monster concept.

I don't like Ankhegs. Not because they're hard but they make the creepiest sounds! Same with spiders. They make noises like scratching on glass. Woe betide my hallmates if they surprise me when I'm playing Cloakwood...

Black Talons are easy. Stinking cloud makes fighting with these guys so much easier. Keep your tanks on the edge of the cloud so the BTs will target them with their swords or arrows. The less arrows they shoot off, the more arrows you get to pick off their corpses. :D

The only reason ettercap are annoying is because I have to chase after them, and someone manages to step on a trap they set, and out come the spiders to feast upon my webbed party. A trap-detecting thief will make this less annoying.

If you're talking about the cloakwood forest, why not invis a thief and send her in to detect/disable traps? I do that all the time, and even if she accidentally sets one off, it's no big deal as she's invisible.

For those of you who like ankhegs for xp, you think to small. I love flesh golems, the only problem is the amount of money I spend on magic arrows and rocks. 2000 xp a golem and with the missles they are a piece of apple crumble.
