According to Elara's tip posted on page 4 of the "Best Tips page" it is possible to refrain from purchasing a ship. It would be nice to save the money but I have found it impossible to enter the wharf unless one has bought a ship. Is it possible to refrain from buying the ship in the patched version of the game?

I've never played the patched version so I don't know if that would make a difference. Saz, I believe, did list in the BEST TIPS thread what the patch does and does not do to your game.

As far as I know, there is no way to avoid buying a ship in Brimloch Roon. Elara is not active on the board so we can't ask how she managed it, if in fact she did. She may have just realised how easy it is to swim instead of using the ship and thought you could by pass buying a ship. In all of my games, I couldn't get out that west gate until I had bought a ship.

Anyone else know differently??

I'm with you, Wyv. In order to exit Brimloch Roon to the west, you have to click on the ship. It's not active until you buy it. So I don't see a way out.

And I play the patched game, so no hope of a break there.

I had a feeling that was indeed the case. So no hope of saving the money then. (Sigh!). Thank you for the clarification, you two!
