I recently restarted my W&W game and I'm traveling the world this time around in order to kill as many NPC's as I possibly can...But when I reached Erathsmedor right before getting the Mavin Blade...I think I experienced a bug in which Erathsmedor did not kill the ever annoying Kol the Heretic. After dealing him many Giant Strikes his health bar does not deplete! Is he immortal at this point in the game?

Hmmm... that's an interesting question. Did you kill Kol the first or second time you saw him? Or both? That might throw something strange into the script. Did you try to kill him before Erathsmedor could? That might throw the script into a loop as well.

Might it also be that Kol was turned to stone? When something is turned to stone, nothing else affects it. Happened to me on one of the cutest little monkey statues that's currently up on the fireplace mantle... :D

Aside from that, I haven't heard of it happening before. Keep us posted...

As far as I know he is always immortal. I have tried attacking him both outside the Serpent Temple and in the tunnels below the Dragon Spire. None of the places did he take any damage.
One cannot hurt characters like the spirit of Xydusa, Gezzered Ra (both encounters included), and Signeur Pastollio either. I believe this is simply because they play a key role in the game and cannot be missed.

The time it happened to me is when I tried to attack him before Erathsmedor could...But now that I know he's always immortal...it is going to ruin a lot of fun... :(

But I have heard that Gezzered Ra is ranked third highest in the Experience given category...So is it possible to kill him?

Yes there's a <font color=deeppink size=5>spoiler</font> in this post as well.

Well it wouldn't be a huge surprise if Kol is immortal prior to the Erathsmedor encounter. After all he is a huge trigger in that scene. Can you turn him into stone? If you can try it and see what happens when you get to the spire. I bet you still meet him there. ;)

I tried to kill Kol as well - when he and Erathsmedor lost their scripts and gazed upon me silently without taking any action :D Kol is cheating. You will read messages like "Kol the Heretic hit for 133 hit points" again and again but Kol will not lose even a single hitpoint.
Another cheater is Kerah at Cet. When you fight her, you will be able to reduce her number of hitpoints to some limit but you'll be unable to reduce her hitpoints any more. Kerah will lose no hitpoints below her limit. And again, you will see messages "Kerah hit for 156 hitpoints" and so on - but without the corresponding effect.
Nevertheless, has anybody tried to attack "immortal beings" like Kerah, Nivius and similar ones by enchanted Mavin Sword? Ket us note that, for example, Anephas at Cet is immune to any weapon but he can be killed by enchanted Mavin Sword or enchanted Staff of Death :D

Could this 'immortality' be the result of not encountering him (eg, him not talking to you, you not talking to him) out the front of the Serpent Temple? Maybe he appears to be in the Dragon Spire but is actually still waiting at the temple.

Did he say everything he said to say last time you saw him in the split passages in the Spire?

Just some ideas....

This is the exact thing that happed to me...I Giantstriked him multiple times dealing about the average 140ish damage, but his health bar did not move a bit...Oh well, I guess all that's there's left to do is to kill Erathsmedor the jolly green dragon...Sorry Wyv!

so wat u are trying to say is that if u try and attack Kol before he is attacked by any other NPCs, he will not get "damaged" even though they say "Kol loses blah blah blah hitpoints"? btw, how much exp does Kol give after u kill him each round?

Felix The Assassin 08-19-2003 12:26 PM

Yes he is immortal! Even at his final encounter you cannot put damage on him. Stone will not work either.

Gezzard Ra, 3rd in XP? Not sure about all that. He can be killed, but one must know when and how to do it.

Felix
