Underwater breathers? Set spawning frequency to "high" and go hunting the crabs. All what you need to do is crossing the sea randomly. Everytime you get a message that a "Crab O'The Sea was there", go underwater and get the crab.
You will be able to buy an uderwater breather for every three crab shells you sell in the docks.
Improvement: try stealing the shells from the crabs before you kill them. Yes, it's possible [img]graemlins/hehe.gif[/img] Why to steal? You can always steal the shell but a dead crab not always drops it. Therefore, the stealing method gives you more shells.

If you are playing the unpatched version of the game you can make do with just three shells. You can use these three shells to get as many breathers as you want by following the instructions given by Mikeyg123 on page four of the best tips. - But only if you are not patched.

Also remember to look for the air bubbles in Colasseum. Every one you get to resets your air level. It's not as good as getting a breather and helmet, but it helps... even with the breathers.

You can also split up the equipment -- one character gets a helmet, another a breather, and so on. IIRC, each one slows your oxygen consumption a bit, and together, they slow it more.

Don't worry about the helmet, just get the Breath of Air spell. You'll look much more stylish underwater with your hair flowing free.

You can actually steal from anything that drops something -- spiders, raptors, longtooths...

You can also steal and purchase back quest items that you may have given to other characters (such as Algamesh's necklace from Kerielle, the Shroud of Elsera from Erathsmedor, etc.).
