Welcome to the board, sgtzack.

I am sure our patch specialists will be online soon to guide you. I never play this game patched. It ruins a lot of opportunities. It does, however, fix a few problems, so I suppose it is a matter of taste. Anyway, I hope you find this game to be among the very best despite its age.

Welcome to the board, sgtzack...

Hmmm...I've never had a problem installing the patch...But I need some info...what did you patch come as? Is it a zip file? If so...just unzip everything with a program like Winzip and hit the extract to and put in the directory (folder) you installed W&W into...

And the which to purchase? I need a little more clarification on what you mean...

Hope that helps..

Welcome to the boards, sgtzack. May your adventures in the Gael Serran inspire military actions for generations to come.

There should be no need to purchase the patch; it is available freely to download, even from this forum. Check the Best Tips thread for a link, and you'll find it there.

If you're talking about which mirror to download it from, it really doesn't matter which mirror you pick. Just pick one and save the file.

After yousave it, it is a self-extracting ZIP. Just double-click it and install it where you've installed W&W. It will handle everythin from there.

If you have any more problems, let us know...

Sgtzack,

Before I was able to play W&W on my new XP system, I had to purchace a 15 or 20 dollar (can't remember how much exactly) downloadable video program called IndeoXP. Didn't like having to pay for a patch for a game I've already played with WinMillenium, but this game is really worth it.

Then I had to install VirtualDub, which is free.

Hmmm... Indeo should have given you the codecs to be able to play W&W. And VirtualDub decompresses the .avi files so you don't need a codec... so the two solutions are exclusive, I believe. :(

But in any case, if you're now playing, that's the important part

Well no they won't. Ligos bought the rights for the indeo codecs. However, you shouldn't have to pay anything for them since indeo codec 4 and earlier are free. You don't need the latest version of that codec to be abe to play/view the intro movies. There's a link to the Indeo codecs on this board, a search should find it.

Btw, virtualdub cannot decompress the intro movies afaik. Haven't really given it a try but they're not avi-files.

Another btw, don't extract the updated files directly into your W&W directory. You may ant to return to the unpatched version later on, so backup the files you are about to overwrite. Then you won't have to look for them on the CD later. Yes, I'm lazy. ;)

Sorry. What I meant was that acquiring the Indeo codecs should have included the needed codecs... not that Indeo would be providing them for free. One of these days I'll try writing in my native tongue... gibberish

Well I somewhat agree with you there. But since the game was never intended for windows 2000/XP they didn't have to think about that.

Anyway here's the indeo codec for everyone.
