MILAMBER 06-25-2002 05:50 PM

I'm just starting off and like Lady Zekke mentioned, I had no idea there weren't really any NPC's you can pick up in this game. Seeing as I'm basically going to be soloing, what do you all feel the best character class is? Sorcerer, wizard, fighter... Are you all multi-classing? Dual classing?

Just curious. I think I'm going to start over with a new character and I'm looking for some fun ideas.

Hey Milamber good to see ya playing NWN. I started out "testing" a fighter and ended up keeping him. Couldnt stop playing to try another, maybe next game! Anyway I dualed a thief level in (think after my 5th fighter level) because I got tired of not being able to open locked items. So now I'm Fighter9/Thief1 and looking to add another thief level soon.

Also I didnt know you couldnt have a whole character party either but well I've adapted. Right now I have Daelan Redtiger, a two fighter duo pretty much kicks serious ass.

Actually, I rather like the cleric, provided you take Animal as one of your domains. Why? Because you get stronger summons (you get the Summon Creature II creature when you cast Summon Creature I). The Healing Domain gives you stronger healing magic earlier, and Sun gives you stronger undead turning abilities. Take Weapon Proficiency-Martial and you can back up your summons quite nicely. Unless you add some levels in thief, you need to make Tomi your henchman (to be able to open chests and disarm traps). Of course, that's true of any character. That's why I wish it would let you have at least 2 henchmen, so you could have Tomi and one other one. Oh well... :(

I almost started a clreic Nerull, and I think I'll give it a go in my next game. I'll remember about the animal domain tip!

I tried a bit of everything to fit my coworkers Multiplayer game- making a halfling thief, an elven wizard, human fighter, human druid, and a human monk.

I later made a half orc barbarian to test the "8 or lower INT results in moronic speech" and he turned out to be the most fun of them all.

Currently I'm playing a half-elven fighter... tried out a wizard (created a new char, put him in chapter 2, and set him to level 7), which was pretty funny... except that I ran out of spells continually and had no hp . Very destructively powerful, though... *chants "Fireball" over and over in a demonic voice* Interesting, but I think I'll finish with my fighter first... then i get to decide whether to play a wizard or a sorcerer Dual-wielding is fuzzy... then again, so is using a big ol' greatsword, I suppose... Actually, if you set up your quickslots right, dualwielding is a snap compared to BG2. Just put the primary weapon in the slot, then pick up and drag the secondary weapon (or shield, if you want to equip that with that weapon) and put it in the same slot. It will show both weapons in the slot. Click it or hit the F key, and you switch to those weapons. Set up all of your favorite weapons and/or weapon combinations in the quickslots. Note though that you'll have to change your quickslots when you upgrade/obtain weapons.

right now i got a great group going, im a sorceror, with Daelan for my henchman for some tanking, add in a nice pixie for traps and you got a great group going. toss in a animate dead spell, and stone skin the skelli and you got another good tank. a dose of mage armor and the pixie survives quite well now too, lower levels he would always go down but hes pretty good now

There is no "Best Class." Of course. :D I'm just Mr. Party-Pooper. :D

For terms of soloing I'm finding my fighter to be doing quite well. I was thinking of playing a human on hard level, which might translate over into soloing on normal difficulty. Here's the plan: Start as Rogue for the skill points. Then a level of Ranger for the dual wield. I'd probably use two short swords cuz it's a combo I find rather effective. Or maybe two rapiers if you feel like taking the -4/-4 in return for the increased crit. Then a level of fighter. Then a level of ranger and two levels of rogue to get you up to sixth. Then fighter from then on. If you get to high levels it should look like fighter 15/Rogue 3/Ranger 2. This way you won't have an xp penalties and you should be able to pick locks and what not.

edit: hey it's my one hundreth post. woo me.
