ok, in every section of chapter one after you return the creature part if you go back to the area you get jumped by some hired thugs, where do they show up in the beggars nest? I wandered around the entire place (after finishing all the quests there) but didn't get jumped, however whenI entered the no-man's land in the blacklake district some assassins shoed up to get whooped up on by my dwarf fighter and grimgnaw (the blacklake district is the only one I don't have finished) so is this the group I was supposed to meet in the beggars nest, or should I go back and wander around there?

You'll get 'jumped' three times in total (after each of the first three recoveries of reargent - I don't think that there are fixed locations.

They seem to be fixed locations. In Beggars nest, if you approach the inn (Shining Serpent?) from the west, then walk south from there, you should be attacked.

It's a timed event and you have to be in an encounter area that has enough room for them to all teleport in. So just find a large open space and they'll come.
