Does anyone know where you find the key to go into the mines on the north road in chapter 2? I have played through the game twice and still can't find it.

If you are talking about the port last mines, you can get the key from Kendrack in the barracks. He has a mission for you.

he'll give you the key when you bring in enough of the ears of the bad guys... ok that's a little vague, when you bring in the ears of teh escapes convicts from waterdeep
