I have been playing a few of the fan made SoU modules and I must say that I am impressed with the quality that I have experienced so far. My question has to do with Modules and the version they were designed under. I have currently both NWN and SoU instaleed with the 1.61 patch. If I download a NWN module that predates SoU, lets say one that is a 1.31 version, will I run into compatibility issues?

Depends on the scripting function used. Some function were changed in version, IIRC most notable changes were from SoU and HotU so 1.31/1.32 and 1.61. If those functions aren't used there's no problem. It's hard to find out though. I don't think there are other compatibility issues.

With some modules there can be compability issues, yes. I've never encountered it myself, but there have been a few modules I would want to but haven't downloaded because of possible problems with any of the expansions.
Many mods on NWVault have several versions of it to fit what version of the game you have, and most mod builders update the info on their mods when a new expansion or patch arrives. |
There are definitely compatibility issues with the modules. Check the last update for the mod carefully, and see what version of NWN it was LAST updated for. If that version predates one of the expansions the chances are good that you will run into compatibility issues.
In the same vein, the Planar Tear modules are at least one set of modules that I know from experience has issues when running under either v1.6.1 or v1.6.2. Attempting save games (at least in mplayer mode) will not only cause the game to crash to desktop, but also require that you reinstall NWN before it will run again! |
Micah mentioned something important; most problems I've heard about is about crashes while playing multiplayer. Make sure to check the 'Comments' section of the modules' page before you use it for MP, as any crashes would be mentioned here by those who have tried.
Any single player problems, on the other hand, I haven't encountered yet, but perhaps I've just been lucky this far. [ 03-08-2004, 03:10 PM: Message edited by: Stratos ] |
Scripting functions could mess up as there are a few in which the order of variables have been changed for example
