"taking the kids out shopping?"

I know in some persistent world scenarios, it is frowned upon to just take new characters aside and buy them a wack of cool stuff because someone did it for you before. I know some call it "Patron-izing," especially when it is your friends you are getting the items for, but I figure in a game such as Escape From Undermountain which is normally for mindless hack and slash in as large a number as you can muster, every little bit helps.

Any official/non-official words on this? Mainly as in a few games I have been on previously, some of the extremely high level people went out of their way to make me feel welcome and purchased for me enough items to survive and thrive on my own. Needless to say, the first time I ran into characters much lower than myself, I did my best to hook them up as well.

The main reason I am asking this is that I helped out one player already because I thought it would be suitable for a dwarf to have REAL weapons instead of a piddly metal stick and a leather nightie on. *grins wickedly* That, and I am trying to get a bunch of my friends online here, and if they do come on it, I don't want them to go down unprepared like I did. (Then again, I am the sick bastard who went in at Level One and fought his way up - only to get SO waxed in Muriel's Gauntlet when trying to find Level Four of the Undermountain. Come to think of it, where IS the door to Level Four of the Undermountain, anyway?)

I find nothing wrong with over-glorified acts of kindness, im known to do it from time to time myself.

I've had some very nice people give my lower levels some things, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Ive given items to other players as well as my own characters. When EfU went server vault, everyone had to start fresh level 1 characters and work ther way up. It was pretty difficult to say the least and I am glad Z didnt have any death penalties installed.

I dont see any problem with hooking others up with items or gold. If they want to work their way up, then I definetly let them. Every now and then I take a fresh new character into EfU and remind myself how damm tough it is without at least 1 or 2 immunities.

Ill tell you this though, you can have every immunity available, be level 40, have an outrageous AC and Stats, and you will still get your own soul handed to you in a few areas.

As for where level 4 is... thats a dangerous level. But your feeling brave, keep an eye out for Ben Sisko... he hangs out near the entrance. He may even ask you a favr or 2.

I too have been on both ends of the giving items/getting items thing. I see nothing at all wrong with it, and as has been mentioned, it doesn't matter what gear you have, your still gonna get yer comeuppances from time to time.

Thanks for all the assistance, and robertthebard, I have already discovered that one out - Level 16 character vs. Drow Archers (and a few of their friends) = one waxed character a few times over. (I am a dual-classed character, which gives me a few major weaknesses.) I have a few bags filled with stuff I never intend on using, just in case my friends (and a few people I have met in NWN fanclub groups) ever come looking for me in the UnderMountain.

I am, however, trying to find all of the Valas set and the Shadow Thieves Guild set of items. Any idea how I would go about finding them all? I have a feeling my friends will be coming in with fighter-types, so I want to get them some extra nice equipment to start off with.

And Teri-sha Illystin, it was nice meeting up with you the other day. Though it was totally unfair of you to beat down that poor innocent Mun'RaSet like that... *smirks*

Teri-sha Illistyn 02-24-2005 12:58 AM

Hey, that Mun'RaSet had it coming... and still does everytime I pass by.

Your welcome to join me, anytime you are on. I have characters of all different levels and I dontmind switching them out to play with others

My favourite to wipe out are those Stirges down on Level 2. Almost every single time I go down that route, they get it. Why? They SO need to be slain. Evil little bloodsucking hummingbirds of Filth and Decay... *curses them like Gollum cursed the hobbits - in the same voice, no less.*

I reckon that a carefully donated item to a new character can make all the difference. I've both given items and received them in the past and hope to in the future. I often bump into people and ask if they want items, perhaps I haven't honed my dodgy street vendor personality yet. (Would you buy a used suit of armour from that man?)

It has been known for players to donate items to their own lower level characters, I have been guilty of that. Usually it is just because I find an item that is only usable by {insert character class/alignment here}, but not always. All my current low level characters are running on empty and would appreciate kind donations *rattles +0 chainmail*

Roddybug, if you have any lower level characters on when I am on as STORY (Tophet), feel free to page me. I will get you as hooked up as I possibly can. I should ask in here though of Ziroc the following: can I have any/all of my current characters renamed slightly so people can tell when I am online? I know I wanted two of them removed (as shown in a previous post in the "Deleted Characters" thread), but for the rest is it possible to have a few characters of text added to each of their names so people can find me easier?
