If someone asks me to recommend a book, then I would say read "Dragon Knight" by some guy named Gordon something (sorry, not much help huh?). But just search the title and you should find it. Its basically about a medieval history college professor who gets warped back in time but to a land of fantasy and dragons. he gets trapped in a dragons body and somewhere along the line he can also change back to human form at will. its a really cool idea for a book and i highly recommend it.

So what book would you recommend?

2. The Bakers Boy Series - J.V. Jones (I like all of her books!!! I think she is one of the best writers out there today!)
3. Game of Thrones and accompanying books) - George R. R. Martin (Another GREAT series!)
4. The Doomfarers of Coramonde (and accompanying books) - Brian Daley (Oldie, but a goody!)
5. Sword of Shannara - Terry Brooks (Don't throw things at me! IT was a good read! The rest of them sucked!)
6. Guardians of the West (Book 1 of the Malloreon)(and accompanying books) - David Eddings (I thought the later books got a little stale though)
7. Wheel of Time Series - Robert Jordon ( loved the first several books, but this series went too long in my opinion. Jordon should have ended it around Book 5 or so. I got bored with it and never read another after that. Still the first several books were good!)
8. The Assasins Trilogy - Robin Hobbs (Another great author!)


If you haven't figured it out, I tend to like trilogys or series. I really like to get into the story. You just can't do that with a single volume most of the time. </font>

Stranger in a Strange Land. Sci-fi morethan fantasy, but a classic. And GRR Martin, as mentioned above.

Offhand, I'd recommend Shardik by Richard Adams, a "borderline" fantasy. That'll keep you busy for a while. I post book recommendations monthly on a little page at:

Stranger in a Strange Land is a book I always recomend as well. Robert Heinlein wrote a whole bunch of good reads. My other favorite by him is "The moon is a harsh mistress".

I also recomend "Enders Game" by Orson Scott Card. It is sci-fi, highly original and well written.

I agree with quite a few of the authors listed above, but I need to add a couple:

Peter F. Hamilton--Series starting with _The Reality Dysfunction_
It's sci-fi but what I like most is that he fleshes out his universe very well, and it includes some interesting ideas

Dennis McKiernan-- _The Iron Throne_ is the first trilogy (now published in one volume), but he has many more that happen both before and after the Iron Throne story. It does get a little annoying how he advertises his other books within his stories (characters make references to legendary figures or stories--which happen to be other books), but his stories are good--I've read them all several times.

<font color=orange>I enjoyed Dennis McKiernan's Iron Throne series too. I've also read a couple more of his books. Did you know that he originally wrote them as a sequel to LoTR? They were submitted to Christopher Tolkein to see if he would agree to release them as such. McKiernan and his publisher never heard from Tolkein, so it was decided that he should change the story around and then release it as a whole new fantasy. I'd site the source for this, but I read it about a year ago and can't remember where.</font>
