Anyone else out there watching it? We got the first season on DVD last week and we're hooked.
Fascinating Dustbowl era setting with magic and mysticism thrown in to sweeten the pot. There's two parallel storylines about powerful characters. It's supposed to end up as a showdown between good and evil, except that so far we can't figure out which is going to be good and which evil (although as of episode 4 they're both starting to tilt in different directions). The world has a surreal feel to it that I love, GREAT camera and set work, very interesting characters, and a plot that looks like it's going to unravel over the entire 12 episodes (or maybe 24). It's the kind of series I'd hate if I had to wait a week between episodes, the plot advances fractionally in each episode, but when you watch a couple at a time it's a satisfying complex and engrossing story. I understand the season 2 finale was on HBO last night, so hopefully they'll get the DVD's out so we can buy them. |
Oh, yes! I have been watching it every week. What a great story!
Naturally, I won't spoil anything for you, other than to say that not all the characters are who you think they are. |
Hehe... that's not unexpected, the show is pretty devious... and I love it.
... spoilers for someone who hasn't seen season 1 ... Right now we know that there's no one visible in the "management" trailer, yet the short guy was talking to SOMEONE in there (himself maybe). The heir apparent to the 'good' side (the kid) has a power that needs to kill something else to heal. The probably 'evil' character (the priest... a bit cliche if it turns out true) is on the path to 'the dark side', using his power to coerce others... but he just had his mission burnt down, can't wait to see what he does about it. The blind seer and the girl/'turnip' mother characters are just awesome, funny, mysterious. The whole darn series is a couple notches above the standard TV fare (Angel/Buffy/CSI/etc...) in sheer quality. It reminds me a lot of 'Band of Brothers' in how it seems closer to motion picture quality than TV quality. Not quite in 'Brothers' territory (which I rank better than any war movie made in the last 50 years), but darn good. And we're on the road to Babylon... I figured on watching that episode yesterday but my blasted wife fell asleep on me. Grrr. |
