I never used special keys for doors even in the old AD&D, but I can tell you how to make it work. Place an event in front of the door you want the special key to work in. Use a condition of player doesn't have key to automatically move the player back a space, thus stoping them from entering. This is not the way the special key was designed for, but it will work effectively. In the meantime I'm sure someone who has used the key funtion will tell you how it works.

Great! Thanks for your help.

I generally find the best way is to use a Stairs/Teleporter/Transfer event and tick the boxes "Event happens when party tries to enter cell" and "Don't ask yes no question". The teleport destination is set to the cell from which the party will be entering. That way you can give an explanation of why the party can't enter, and they never get to see what's on the other side of the door. This is better than the normal use of special keys, as it was never explained to the player why they couldn't move through what appeared to be a door.

For a lcked door, first make a key.Thengoto select wall clickon door you will use.To the right you see Blocages.Look down the list to locked key 1.check that the close and place door.It should show the same color code,Brown just as the locked key 1 had.If so you should have.Hope it helped.

I`ll try to correct some of my spelling here.I forgot to add,as steve`s reply above said the player won`t know why the door won`t open unless you place an event there.I put an event If player doesn`t have item (key),something like "This door is locked".Then when player finds the key.add to event If Player has item(key)"The door Unlocks"Then add sound, etc.Good Luck
