Hello All,

I plan on upgrading my pc to Windows 2000 from Win 98. I'be been playing BGII in win98 but will NOT upgrade if there is a problem running BG II under W2K. Does anyone know of any problems i may encounter ? thanks.

It might depend on what kind of computer components you've got (ie: video card, sound card, etc...). i've got an nvidia geforce and playing bg2 in win2k wasn't the most wonderful experience. it's playable if you turn off a lot of the extra eye-candy (mainly the 3d stuff). otherwise, stick with 98.

I have windows ME and BGII plays well except for that the game sometimes exits by itself. I assume that this is glitch?

Well I run BG2 under win2k and i only have a 16mb stealth 4 card and it runs fine. Sure I have hardware acceleration turned off, but the game is still the same, I don't have any troubles with it. The stability of win2k is worth the upgrade in my opinion

Dude, when i swapped OS from win9u to ME, there were some serious probs. first, The comp dons'nt understand that it is installed, so youy haveto start via another file then you usually do. Some other shit aswell
also... installing ToB is bad....

remember, win 2000 is the successor the win Nt series, _NOT_ win 9x. so its not, and never was, intended to be good for games.

win Me was intended to be good for games, but failed. miserably.

go get win XP,which is the successor to both, and apparently its the best ever.

forzen- i suspect that you did the *ahem* upgrade *cough* wrongly in this case, you might have fragged the registry by mistake. you should be able to kill BG2 (use shift+delete) and re-install from scratch.

LOLOL!!!

if you upgrade that's stilly imho it screws the system up imho, what i did was nuke the disk and do a clean install it workd perfectly no problem
all my game works fine with max detail maxminun EVERYTHING, 3d acceleration on and so on and so on and i got a geforce 2 ultra, and all the goodies and it works fine.

If u ever have problems with program files, do a system restore.

I upgraded from Win98 to Win2k Professional a few weeks ago without a clean intall or anything. Only a few programs needed to be reinstalled but BG2 was fine. Since then I have not had a single crash or single blue screen of death and I used to get them frequently on W98. So W2k is bloody stable and has not problems with BG2/SoA or ToB as far as I am aware.

to be fair, yes i have NEver seen a blue screen of death at all! i had this computer for one full year and i have heavly modifyed it from the orginal spec and its still bloody stable, not a single crash of the os, only thing that ever crash is games but even then its bloody rare
