..i put the ***'s in there to minimize any spoilering (?)...but uif ur here, u likely know how to open it and with what, but...i am at the cage where the Ash staff is...i see the flamequencher with the key shape on the end in my inventory...and i can use it, but when in packpack, (party or any character) i try the "use" option to use on the cage but it doesn't show up in my inventory like other keys and items do...any help?

Welp.. this may seem a bit too easy and perhaps you have tried it already.. don't activate the "use" function. Simply click on the flamequencher in the inventory and let the mouse pointer hold the item. Then exit out(hit escape key) of the inventory screen and see if placing the flamequencher on the gate and clicking to activate will work. I imagine you may have already tried this but you didn't state this in your post exactly..
