My level 20 mage has a 97% knock knock skill on disarming chests, yet when I use it (power 7 of course, with an 81 power cast skill) the trap is triggered perhaps 7 times out of ten! What on Earth does this percentage figure actually relate to, because it sure isn't the chance of it succeeding! What other (random) factors influence your chance of success? The manual doesn't say much about this.

Maybe it will help if you first use divine traps and/or examine the trap before the knock knock spell.

What he is trying to say is that you don't use knock knock on trapped chests. You only use it if you can see the "tumbelers". For trapped chests cast divine traps and then have you thief (or equiv) do an inspect trap. Trapped and untrapped chests are done compleatly differntly.

Hi krayzkrok!

What chimera99 is trying to say :) is: There actually ARE (it took me very long to find out, that's why I mention this here) chests, that are locked, but not traped. The interface looks like the doors, with the tumblers, and that's where the manual is pointing to. Trapped chests ARE opened... well, nobody said that spells care much about daggers, right? Just thought I'd mention this...

Never forget your towel, cheers

Ah, I see. I think. That makes sense at least.

I think I was confused because knock knock sometimes will open trapped chests without the trap firing, so I assumed that as my knock knock skill improved so the chances of setting the trap off would decline.

The moral is, the only reliable way of opening a trapped chest is having a party member skilled in disarming traps - there is no "magical" alternative? I never invested much in a lockpicking character - my ninja has a locks and traps skill around 42 now, which isn't good enough on the later, more powerful traps.

While I'm here, can anyone tell me what "Rune of Chaos" trap does? I hate traps that fire and then appear to show no negative effects. I made that mistake with Philosopher's Bane a while back, until I next found a shop!

As I recall, the Rune of Chaos trap sets off a Pandemonium spell.
