I have a prob. My fighter has been using Bloodlust since I got it way back at the beginning of the game. I'm pretty far now and want to try some other weapons I've found with him. Problem is, when I take off bloodlust and give him another sword, he is only getting one attack per round and one swing when he does even in bezerk mode.
I know he got more than that even when he was level 5 or so. He has like 95 & 90 for spd and dex and 100 sword skill. What happened???? When he is using bloodlust, he gets two attacks per round and swings two to four times each attack. Why can't he go back to another weapon????? j |
You must select the bersek mode in the attack list. Else it will not take effect.

Possible solutions are :
1) Check encumberance - have you given him something really heavy to carry lately - get it back to blue as a minimum. 2) Can't remember, but bloodlust had some advantages in intiative from memory - could be simply a symptom of the sword change. 3) Depending on the patch you use, you could have the infamous "wrap" problem - early or no patches it is possible to wrap your speed past the maximum (about 175 from memory) and back to an extremely low number. Casting haste on characters with 100 speed, amulets of speed, snakespeed skill, high initiative swords / gear can produce this effect. This is most likely to happen in resistances, but have heard it reported in speed. |
Thanks for the suggestions guys.
I do have berzerk mode selected. I have even tried turning it off then back on after removing the sword. My speed cannot be wrapping because it is only like 90-95 now anyway. I realize that I will be losing the +6 to initiative, but even my 5th level fighter w/ really low scores in speed & dex on my other game gets multiple attacks (while berzerk). This guys is like level 15 w/ 95spd & 90dex and only gets ONE attack w/ ONE swing per round, while berzerk. I really hope I'm not stuck having him just use bloodlust for the whole rest of the game. That would suck. Note: I know berzerk mode is set properly, cause it still says he "..goes berzerk on..." in the message window...it's just that he only gets the one attack unless I equip bloodlust. Any other ideas? Is this gonna make him really crappy and hurt me as I approach the end of the game or is it entirely possible to beat the game still using this sword? Right now I am heading into the sea caves to look for Marten. I can't do diddly again Nessy at this point though. The only place left for me to go is NE area & Rapax. I also get TOTALLY whooped by the cultists in the SE area temple thing. My guys just can't stand up to all that magic, even with magic screen, soul shield, and element shield. They keep putting death clouds all over me and casting those instant death spells. I loose at least one character every two rounds in there. |
Jfunk:
Bloodlust actually does two completely independent things: 1/ All attackes made with it are Berzerk 2/ Gives an extra swing per attack In other words, the extra swing is a property of the sword, NOT of the berserk attack mode. So giving bloodlust to a fighter will actually give him an extra swing. The berzerk attack in itself increases damage at the cost of AC and attack rating. Because of the extremly high inititive modifier of BL (+6) it is most likeley that you even get 2 additional swings instead of one. This also works the other way around, i.e. a weapons with negative initiative modifier can cancel your extra swings.

Okay, but even though I would be getting less attacks w/o BL, he still should be getting more than 1 attack and 1 swing.
Even my valks w/ lower speed & dex and slower weapons are getting two attacks per round. In fact the only characters I have that only get 1 attack per round now are my priest and my fighter. My ninja, valks, monk, bard, and alchy all get two, but only the ninja and alch have higher dex/spd. Like I was saying before, even this very same fighter was getting more attacks back at level 5 w/ much lower speed and dex before I ever got BL. j |
jsteng,
Ok I see your problem. AFAIK, the factors that determine how many attacks / swings you get are: Speed Dexterity But also: Level Close combat skill Weapon skill I do not think initiative matters, in one of my previous parties the only characters I had with 3 attacks and 3 swings was my valkyrie, who also had the lowest initiative. How proficient is the your fighter with the weapon he is using ? [ 02-13-2002: Message edited by: Warhammer ]
|

[..]

It is not the characters initiative that influences extra swings, but the initiative modifier of the weapon. Try equiping your Valkyrie with a T'Rang Stunrod (-6 Ini), and she will lose one swing almost for sure. [ 02-13-2002: Message edited by: BlackHand ]
|
Ok, here are my fighters stats:
LVL: 18 str 100 int 33 pie 25 vit 100 dex 82 spe 96 sen 36 sword 100 close combat 85 shield 46 dual 40 He gets two attacks w/ 2-4 swings per attack using BL. 1 att w/ 1 swing using any other sword. This same fighter used to get two attacks per round occasionally while berzerking back when he around level 5 before he ever got BL. Any ideas?? j |
