I was reading the walkthrough and saw something about the dreaded Dark Savant making an appearance on the road in the swamp. He didn't show for me though. The first time I went into the swamp I hugged the wall for a while, not knowing where to go, so I didn't stay on the road.

Is this going to cause a problem for me.

BTW long time lurker. And I LOVED the W&W forum. Y'all kept me laughing.

The Dark n´Cranky as someone (Vassele I think) called him, makes a Cameo apearance in the swamp and drops a little something that might be useful later on, so I sugest you go back and get it.

Don't worry, if you wander around the swamp long enough, you'll run into him, and in the long run you'll be glad you did.

I've read of two places to find him on this board, and I ran into him in a third, so I think it's just a matter of timing.

I could be wrong, but I think you need to have a talk with Don Barlone before the Savant shows up?

It is not vitally important to meet the Dark One but it does make a certain quest much easier.

I don't think you need to talk with the Don, my party didn't and he still showed up. Although it was not on the road, it was in a wilderness section of the swamp in the SW area.

I had killed that "rattus rattus" guy who asks you if you want to rob the bank (i say yes to get the zip gun and then attack him) - to me he's a little rat bastige and you can get an ankh of speed off of him sometimes (save it before you whack him). So I never could talk to the Don as I guess this messed me up with the Rattkins, I had to put a hit on the Don instead ;)

You don't have to See Barlone first. In my current game, we just walked right through the Trynton area and on to the swamp. The big DS made his appearance, as usual. Of course, we walked around for awhile before that happened.

Funny thing, in most of my games, he's shown up near a bog hole, and always leaves the trinket right on top. So thoughtful of him ;)

Also, even though you see the Savant first, if you're still on good terms with the Razuka, you can get in to Barlone anyway.

I believe if you stay on the main path when entering the swamp, you will run into him. Definitely at the end of one of the paths.

It has been my experience that the Dark Savant only shows up on the off-road, "blackened" spots on the map.
