If you're talking about the ball in Bobo's cage, there's a use for it somewhere in Arnika.

It's to be used back in the spaceport in Arnika. A certain device is broken there that can be fixed by using the "Shiny Metal Ball" on it. This helps to solve one of the later quest given to you by Z'ant, if you are aligned with the T'Rang.
