Do the alliances you make have any effect on the ending of the game?

I just finished after having joined the T'Rang and Umpani -- and had three possible endings to sample. Would it have been any different if I had gone all the way with either faction and destroyed the other?

No, endings are the same no matter what you do (or don't do) about the T'Rang and Umpani. For instance, one game, I did the double agent route up to the "destroy ship" quests. And that's where I left it. Went on to finish the game, never rescuing the prisoners or destroying the Black Ship.

Made not the slightest difference. I have the feeling that the T'trang/Umpani stuff was meant mainly for Ascension Peak. The army (or armies) that never show up.
