I need help in solving a technical problem. Because of a computer problem, I have to uninstalled and then reinstalled Wiz8. Before I uninstalled the program, I copied all the saved files to a different location. After I reinstalled the program, I copied all the saved files (including the charter files) to the save folder. But when I went into the Load section, the system gave me the following ERROR message:
You are viewing a message intended for the developers of Wizardry 8 Debug assertion in module:\Wizardry 8\Local Code\LoadSaveGame.cpp line 3225 failed: Expression uiSize <= sizeof*pStatus evaluates to false. Any help is appreciated. I hope I don’t have to replay this game from the very beginning. Thanks— Granville |
Maybe I should ask the question in a different way. Is there any way I can use my old save file? If so, how? The normal copy and paste method doesn't work.
Thanks in advance. Granville |
that happens when the versions don't agree.
most likely you forgot to patch when you reinstalled the game. you cannot use save games from a patch and use them in an earlier version of the game. they just aren't backwards compatible. also, there are other files you may not have copied. if you took the entire "saves" file you are okay, but if you only took your last game, and skipped your "characters" file, then you could have problems. let us know if it's the patch or not. :D V***V |
Thanks for the response. I thought I did the patch. I copied the patch file to the Wiz8 directory and double clicked on the patch file. Now I have another sub dir "Patch" under the original patch file. Is my game patched? If it is, then my save file is still not working.
Thanks-- Granville |
your "patch.001" should be in this file:
C:\Program Files\Sirtech\Wizardry 8\Patches if you have another "patches" file in the first file, then it is messed up. it may even require uninstalling the game and reinstalling all over again. your installation for your file is best if you let WinZip "extract" it and put everything where it needs to go, and overwrite all the necessary files. pasting the file in place is not enough, because that way your main "wiz8.exe" does NOT get overwritten. if it's not overwritten, then you get freaky error messages like the one you report. ::sighs:: i feel for you. i went thru this when the last patch came out. it took me 3 installs and i still ended up starting over from scratch. somewhere along the line all my character files got corrupted. anyway... try deleting the current "patches" file & everything in it and reinstalling the patch. maybe even a new patch download, if its no trouble for you. i hope it works for you. Install the game in a clean new empty directory, then isntall the patch finally copy the savegames.
