I'm wondering what the best race for this is, I don't have the game unfortunly, but I'm preparing for it, just wish I had the game, so, whats the best race, and also whats the best weapon that a Gadeteer can make?

For purely role-playing purposes, I had my gadgie a gnome.

As far as weapons, the only one that you'll need is the one that comes with-the omnigun, and the gadgets that you'll make. At the beginning, your omnigun will be kind of wussy, but by the end, loaded with medusa stones, you can inflict every kind of malady (poison, blind, ko, etc.) as well as have a pretty significant kill %. Add that to the kickbutt gadgets that they'll make, and my gadgeteer was by far my favorite character.

Whistles.

Man, so I guess that the Omigun is loading with differnet types of items to use as weapons, what kinda items does this gun use for its ammo, I'm going to try to get the game, so I defently need to know what items this thing uses.

Well, at the start of the game, it shoots stones, and Musket Balls. As the Gad levels, the thing gets adjusted to shoot Darts, Throwing Knives, and Bolts/Arrows.
The Gad can also make multi-shot crossbows.
For the benefits of different races, you have to know whether you want to fight much, or mostly use Gadgets. In any case, Vitality is very important, and then Dexterity, Strength, Senses. Piety also contributes to Stamina. Intelligence is only important if you don't include practise sessions in your game style, because it only improves your learning rate, and not your effectiveness.

Dude, thats an instresting weapon, using things to shoot, hmmm, I know that a Lizardman wouldn't be a good Gadeteer, defently not, but do you think that a Dracon might be?

Oruboris 07-06-2002 05:53 AM

Dracs start with pretty low intelligence and senses, but high vitality and dexterity, so I *think* they'd be ok-- never actually tried one.

My Hobbit gadge was very good, my felpur less so. Be sure you make your gadge a female so she can have a necklace of endurance, which helps her recover stamina-- its a female only item. You are at least half way through the game before you get any really good gadge items, but then you get a ton: devices that heal, kill instantly, etc. Important to check some of the websites like Wolfie's to learn which items go together to make what.

Best stat-wise for being a Gadgy is probably the Halfling; I took one of those and gave her a Gnome portrait because I also like the idea of Gnome tinkerers Female isn't a bad choice for gender because the gadgets use up alot of stamina, and they have more access to stamina regenerating items. I would go with a sword + shield for secondary weapons, not so much to fight with (although I have heard they can do well in melee if you need them to, mine always would hang in the back and shoot the omnigun/use gadgets), but just for the protection of the shield if she gets exposed to melee, and because some magic swords are worth carrying for stat/skill boosts (one buckler too if your gadgy will be the lockpicker). Probably I would do Dex/Sen first, then Str/Vit. Int isn't that great IMHO, if you leave it at 55 it's fine, Pie a waste, and Speed can be pumped every fight by someone casting haste (that character should build speed, and that one only).

Cool, I might try a Dracon Gadeteer, I like dragons, lizards things like that, and the lizardmen only make good fighters, so I might give the Gadeteer job to a female Dracon, might be intresting to see what happens.

Cool, I'll have to get that enderunce item also so I'm able to do like you said, I just hope that I'm able to get all the items to combine them into intresting things. I saw on a site that if you were to choose between a Bard or Gadeteer, that the Gadeteer would be the choice to choose.

By the way, you've all been speaking about that Omigun, and someone said that at the start, do you have to build it, or does the Gadeteer come with this weapon automaticly?

armakh 07-06-2002 02:40 PM

Your gadgeteer comes with the omnigun automatically, and tweaks it every two levels. So at the beginning, it's just a wussy gun, but after a while, it really becomes a great weapon. IMHO, it's the epitome of what a gadgeteer does-tweaks things and invents different ways to do things. I think that the gadgeteer is a great, and very interesting class unlike anything else I've seen-and by the end of the game, they are VERY powerful.
