I've been trying to get some certain weapons like EXCALIBER from the chest after killing NESSIE. The thing is that I tried and tried (maybe about a hundred times) by reloading the game everytime it's not in the chest. I know it's there but I think I'm doing it wrong. What else is there to do to get EXCALIBER from that freakn chest?

And how about the LIGHT SWORD? The Buccaneers (Bayjin shallows) drop them randomly when I kill them yet I’ve been killing them again and again still I get nothing but garbage is dropped to me.

WHAT PART IN THE GAME SHOULD I “SAVE” BEFORE I ENGAGE THE RANDOMLY APPEARING ITEMS IN THE CHEST AND THE RANDOM DROPS BY THE ENEMIES THAT REALLY HAVE THEM?

Monster drops are decided on at the moment of death, so you only have to save before a fight.

Treasure in chests is determined the first time you enter the area. So you have to save before you go into the section with Nessie.

Even then, you may not get the item(s) you want. It's very randomized and I think the chance for the really good stuff, like Exaclibur, is small. Good luck.

To a large degree, it simply isn't worth it to try to get specific high-level items when opening chests:
1) Most of the chests are well inside an area, so you'd have to fight your way through the area from the initial entry again and again and again.
2) The highest-level items have *very* low probabilities of appearance; I've gotten Excaliber once in maybe 14 games taken to the point where I could open that chest. Same for a random-appearing Zatoichi Bo, though at least there you can always get the fixed one.

Likewise for high-level monster drops; the *Light**Sword* is also an item I've seen once in the last dozen+ games. Lower-level monster drops are quite a bit better; if you really need a Spirit Staff or some Spider Silk, you can save before fighting the fixed Oak Saplings or Giant Spiders in Trynton, try again if needed, and almost always get the item within a few combats.

The designers did a pretty good job of making it not worth your time to play "Reloading For Items", at least for the really high-level stuff. The always-available items, like Fang, Ivory Blade, Staff of Doom, The Mauler, and the like are plenty powerful for what you need to do; just consider the exotically powerful and vanishingly rare items to be a great, unexpected bonus if you happen to get them.

I once killed the Buccaneers about 40-50 times to get a light shield. No light sword. Expect lots of reloading.

I once wanted to see the fabulous light sword, and entered Bayyjin about 20 times (avoiding all fights but the ones at the entrance) until i got it . But i think this was very lucky (i didn't see it yet in ~25 regular games). (BTW i continued to play from the save file of the first attempt to enter the area. The sword looked just too unbalancing)

I can't remember who posted this technique for the Buccaneer ghosts, but the best suggestion that I saw on speeding the reload process is the following:

1) Attack from a distance, especially with spells as these tend to even out the damage over multiple rounds.
2) When the ghosts are near death, run away until combat stops and then save the game.
3) Return and kill one ghost. If you like the drop, flee until combat stops and save the game. If you don't like, reload and kill a single ghost again.
4) Repeat step 3 over and over and over until you get what you want.

Note: it will still take a long time to get the Light Sword and Light Shield. I've had both and can say this - I wasn't terribly impressed with the shield but the sword is amazing.

I liked the light shield, +10 armor! But you need a bard, ranger, etc. who can make get good use of it. Never got the light sword, ever (in 15+ games? I don't count them, finished 8).

I've never had the light sword either. In fact I didn't know until now how to find it. Are the Buccaneer ghosts in Bayjin?
The Excalibur thing is news to me too. Is there a chest near nessie, or does it drop a chest sometimes? I've killed it a couple of times but don't remember seeing anything after the combat?

The Buccaneer Ghosts are in Bayjin Shallows at the sunken ship.

There's a small cave near Nessie where you will find a chest. Nessie will attack you but you can escape to the cave. Of course Nessie will block the way on your return.

Do the Bucanner Ghosts drop the *Light**Sword*, or just the *Shield*? I've gotten the *Light**Sword* once, and it was from a chest (anyone know which one?) in Bayjin, not from the ghosts in the Shallows.

WRT Nessie's chest, you don't have to fight her to get to it; you can hug the wall and sneak by her (obviously, a decent Chameleon helps). I usually empty the chest on my first trip through, but don't fight Nessie until later.
