I was in the Mountain Wilderness Area when I ran into a Golem (think it was a granite golem) and I got the following message during the battle:

[xxxx] weapons snapped

After the fight I looked at that PC's weapons and compared them to a prior save game but it doesn't seem like they are damaged. I've been playing a bit since then, and it doesn't seem like there is a reduction in the amount of damage this character does in battle.

Anyone see that message and know's what it means?

I'm guessing it's just a really bad way of saying my PC didn't do any damage that round.

Oh, both weapons that PC is carrying are cursed. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.

I did a search in the forums, but didn't find anything. I can't be the only one who's see this.

Never had that happen before.

Sounds like something they'd put in the game. It also sounds like it doesn't work the way it was intended.

Too bad you don't have a screen shot. I've never seen it.

Welcome to the boards jjn!

I've never seen that happening before. Have you got a screenshot?

Solomon 11-10-2003 02:41 PM

That was uncouth of me...welcome to the board!

Actually I have never even met any weapons or armor which got destroyed over time. So nothing like durability which can be encountered in some other RPG's.

jjn1056 11-10-2003 02:59 PM

Sorry, no screenshot!

Is there an easy way to grab screens in the game, without running a utility in the background?

Yeah, it's seemed like the kind of thing the game makers would do, considering how hard I've found the game to be! Last two games I played start to end were Diablo II and the lastest Warhammer. Those games were really easy in comparison! This game is more like my experience playing Ultima 4, when I was in High School.

LOL, I guess I've just dated myself.

Last Wizardry game I actually played was the very first one, when I was a freshman in High School. We had all the spell names and effects photocopied and blown up so they were poster sized. We put these posters up along the walls of the computer room to make it easy to spot the spell you needed

Teacher didn't like us encouraging game play in the computer area though...

Thanks for your welcomes!

Watch out for it when fighting stone golems. My guess is that you need to hit something that is hard to make it happen. I guess I could run some of the executables through grep to try and find the text message, but I doubt that would help.

As far as I can tell, the weapons function exactly the same as before. Maybe they decided it was too mean, considering how hard it is to find good weapons.

Peace,
John

welcome to the board, jjn

wiz 8 was released only party finished due to money pressures. the developers did an admirable job tying up a number of loose ends, but occasionally there's an odd message that hints at what was left out.

it may be that you came across one of those that no one else has!

I'll bet my two front teeth it actually said "(name)'s weapons swapped."
W not n. That happens all the time when the ranges change. Hit your keyboard's Print Screen key to save the screen.
