I am not able to fight croc. What do I have to do to kill him to get my chararcter back?

You get some nice points for killing the froggie, so why not do that, get your guy (or gal) back, and THEN kill Croc. The returned person, as I recall, will share the points that Croc hands out.

I tried two strategies. The best was to put the stealth person (if you have one or two or three) in front and everyone else in back. He is pretty strong. Only killed him once. Good luck!

You can attack him from the dialog menu.

:D Well actually when someone posts to ask a question you can't know how well they know the game, so it is best to give all manners of help.

As I somewhat vaguely recall now, once your friend is kidnapped, you can't get the regular dialogue options with Crock. It's been a long time since I did that, as I usually killed him before taking the idol. So I think there's not much choice except to go after froggie first.

if you say "no" when he asks if you want to help hime, you can get to the trade screen, and attack from there. If you've accepted the quest, he won't talk to you until you have a leg.
I don't know whether he can be attacked by your entering combat mode and selecting him as a target when you've accepted the quest, but you can attack him that way otherwise, i do it all the time for solos.
