OK...I found my way down the sliding ramp into the King's Quarters at Rapax Castle (after having a great time wasting the denizens of the zoo). I picked up the key on the table. However, when I tried to use it on the keyhole I found in a wall near a mounted Hogar head, I get a message saying I might want to keep the item for later. I also find I am unable to identify the key. My Mage has an Artifact level of 49 (highest in party), but when she tries to identify the key (several Identify scrolls have been used attempting this), she just keeps repeating that it's not possible. I presume, from this experience, that the key must first be identified before it can be used? Argh! I know where the place is that I can walk through the wall (from a message saying I notice that the stones are loose), but I really want to find my way to the portal to the Savant Tower instead. I can always come back for other things later. Is there another way to identify the key, or do I have to do other things in the game until the artifact level is high enough to identify the key before I can reach the tower portal?

I think you weren't close enough to the keyhole (you have to be right on it), but maybe it has to be ID'd. I always have someone with Identify Item so never had the ID problem.

This is one of those annoying situations where you have to be VERY close to something. Just get up very close to that tiny keyhole and use the key. It should work whether it's id'd or not.

You can always check where you need to touch by waving your empty cursor around until it becomes a hand.
Yes, all keys work whether identified or not.
