Does the instant kill capability of the ranger (based on ranged combat skill) work with slings ? throwing weapons ?

As far as I know it works with all ranged weapons, including slings and thrown stuff.

According to the manual, the ranger only gets criticals with bow and xbow.
The ninja is the only class that gets criticals with thrown stuff.
Nobody gets criticals with slings.

Rangers rule for ranged crits though, especially in later levels with high crit % bows which you can get later in the game.

The best crit bow is the strong bow at 6% but you need 80? strength to use it. The fight with the prince on the peak I crit. Every one accept for two with my 4 ranger party. Get mystic arrows and have fun.

Triple crossbows with Lightning Bolts are also fun.

Remember to 'push' a Ranger's Air and Divine magics for Portal and Summon Elemental...

Wereboar; The Manual Is Not To Be Believed on many issues, and these are two of them.

Ninjas get Crits with Slings (i know because i've had them--plain Sling, Bullet Stone) and this is because the game lumps Sling with Throw.

AND on P 124, Appenix 4: Skills, under Ranged Combat: "For the Ranger, this skill also determines chance of a critical strike when using a bow or MODERN WEAPON." The manual is wrong anyway, i know i've had crits with a Ranger throwing Feather Darts. Probably the same thing, where the code wasn't written to distinguish.

Scatter, that's very interesting as I would much prefer a Ninja with Doubleshot Sling/Wrist Rocket and Impaling Stones doing good damage/status effects continuously, rather than relying on them using Feather Darts, Throwing Knives etc in the hope I get a critical hit now and then.

Possible silly question, do you know if auto-penetrate works with slings?

have you had a Ninja hit but do no damage with a sling? not me.
