I was rummaging around a cupboard and found my old copy of 'Master of Magic' (MoM).

Anyway, Wiz8 has NPCs and MoM had heroes but MoM also had the ability to make your own weapons etc and just mused that it would have made Wiz8 even greater if you could do something similar. Not to create uber weapons to detract from, say, Z-Bo and Murasama Sword I hasten to add.

The Gadgeteer should have been able to make a doublestrike dagger from two daggers except it was bugged, and, of course, can make double and triple Xbows. Just make him/her a little more useful during the first part of the game as he is a late developer. Just have a few more gadgets you could merge with good quality weapons etc, eg the enchanted broadsword.

OK, it's a pipe dream and I need to get a life. Now if I can only get MoM working on Dosbox.....

Isn't there something like item editor for Wizardry 8?

Something like Morrowind you mean, where you can enchant nonmagical items with your own spells? That would have been cool, yeah.

I've often thought this as well. It would have been great if they could, for example, add stuff you find in the game to the omnigun instead of upgrading it automatically on level-up. Like, you find the laser pointer and merge it with the omnigun to give it the laserflash unit. Maybe make their own technological armor as well in the same manner.

Perhaps in Wiz 9...? I'll keep dreaming. :D

What Item Editor? Does it work?

I often thought that the Boomerang Shiruken could have been beefed up slightly, eg a higher critical hit factor.

I found Morrowind very frustrating to play due to the constant load times going from one area to another and the frenzied combat clicking. I did enchant some stuff though.

Also, like you said, something like a laser pointer combining with the omnigun to give it greater accuracy.

As you say though, keep on dreaming.....

Oh, I think Variol asked about Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic in his 'Bruthas and Sistahs' thread. There you could build City buildings which allowed the creation of magical weapons etc.

Yes, would have loved to have seen much more gadgets.

Something else which I would have liked would have been "cross-profession" benefits. By this I mean...

</font>
  • Gadgeteer able to merge gadgets together to make musical instruments for Bards.</font>
  • Priest able to bless a Long Sword, so a Fighter could have a "Blessed Long Sword" (does x2 damage against undead).</font>
  • Alchemist able to merge potions together to make a poison brew which when the Ranger has equiped in their personal inventory, enables them to have Poison-tipped Arrows (probably at the expense of losing a few Initiative points = time taken to dip arrow in poision before firing).</font>
  • Bard able to play music to a wooden staff to make a "Sungwood Staff" for Bishops (does slightly more damage).</font>
...well you get the idea, add your own suggestions if you like?

Good ideas Wolfie, you're hired!

Wolfie 09-22-2004 09:17 PM

Ok, I'll design 'em, if you can implement them?!?? What's the hourly rate anyway?

:D

Yes, there is an Item Editor (does a few other things too) by Mad God at the Greatest RPG Fans forum. It's tricky to start, you have to rename it to .exe and then retarget it manually to Wiz-8 (its original version was W-7 only) but you can change all the physical stuff in the game to make it act the way you think it should...

Thanks for the info.

General question, has anyone used it to edit anything? If so, what have you edited?

As I said, I would like the Bommerang Shiruken to have a better critical hit chance (after all you have to go through to get it).
