Ok, I just started chapter 3, even though I didn't finish most of the chapter 2 sidequests. I want to get Imoen back as soon as possible. She's kind of a key member for my party strategy. I don't know how far I am from spellhold, but I got the first quest from the Shadowthieves leader, and I think I might go for it. Most of my characters are about level 10, except yoshi which is a few ahead.

It's not really that hard, though..

Once you go to Spellhold, it will be a long, long time before you get back to Athaktla.

What's your party's composition right now, and what do you have for magic weapons? Have you stolen (or otherwise obtained) two or three scrollcases full of new spells for Imoen? Do you have at least eight spare potions of master thievery?

Depending on the answers to these questions, you are most likely ready to go. It's not that hard, and the encounters scale themselves to your level, so don't worry too much.

There are two encounters where you will need at least one tank with a +3 or better weapon, but that's it.

It's also all about choices. There are many optional things you can do that are relatively tough, but which can be overlooked. A couple of times you are offered a selection of activities of varying difficulty, but you will always have a sense of which tasks are harder than others.
