I found a chest in a room shortly after seeing bodhi in spellhold. The chest had a bunch of what look to be non magical items mirrors, skulls, water jug and such. There are also a number of statues in the room. Am i supposed to match these items up to the statues or something? I can't seem to find what to do with them.

Yes, it is all part of the statue/item matching puzzle. I won't spoil you the fun though.
