Should they make a Baldur's Gate TV show, its to big to be a movie, if they tried to make it a movie it would suck. However a TV show would allow most if not all of the story. What do you think ?

Definitely not.
I am of the opinion that, while some books can be made into films, films into books, films into TV serials, etc etc quite successfully, I would not encourage it. Although some of these work quite well, IMHO they are usually a 'cheap' way of making entertainment which try to capitalise on success in one medium and reproduce it in another - selling the product like a 'brand name', usually with the sole aim of trying to make more money, rather than trying to produce something new/challenging/innovative/imaginative. I would rather see innovation in all media, be it books, games, TV or large screen. Look how much 'spin-off' cr*p already exists on TV, film, and especially in PC games. To be honest I'm yet to see a movie or whatever that remotely does justice to the book that it claims to resemble. It may well be the same with a game to film/series transition. Judging on most of the D&D type films/TV shows I've seen I daresay that a BG film/TV show would go down like a lead balloon.
Only my opinion. http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif ------------------ One love, peace. [This message has been edited by Charlie (edited 04-09-2001).] |
I am reminded of Dungeons and Dragons: the cartoon...
If BG was made into a TV series... well, it would have to be VERY professionally done to get 'right'. You'd need: - Dungeons and Dragons advisors from Wizards of the Coast - The writers and designers of the computer game - That guy who wrote the books To help the TV crew, and that's be a difficult battle between the three factions to establish a 'generic' Baldur's Gate for the small screen. Next, you'd have the licensing and merchandising problem. If 'Wizards' and Boiware were to see a BG tv shoew, they'd have to relinquish the rights to the BG name. PErsonally, I never feel it's a good idea to give a license to anyone who is not the creator of the project. Both reasons prohibit such a series. But I agree, the episodic nature of BG in general would lend itself well to a TV show. Tancred |
Dungeons and Dragons the cartoon now that had potential,
non of which was fulfilled. I'm sure a tv show could be done, but it would need a very good producer/directer and a lot of cash.http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/daisy.gif |
Let us not forget that horrible abomination D&D The movie.
