Is it just me or do most people on this board seem to be Australian? NO OFFENCE TO ALL YOU AUSTRALIANS but is this just the wierd imagination of a UK male?

Nope. I´m german and I´ve already met some from Sweden and Holland, just to give some examples. What about the others?

Tarinoc 05-08-2001 04:06 PM

I'm American... but I have noticed an awful lot of usage of the word "mate". ...in noun form that is, not verb.

DJG 05-08-2001 04:29 PM

Tarinoc, my friend, most AUSTRALIAN people us MATE as a term for friends (As you may well know. No offence!) but that is my point. Alot of the usage of the term MATE means a lot of Australians right (NO OFFENCE TO ALL YOU AUSTRALIANS)???? Or is this just a guys demented logic????

Thanx ,DJG, for the compliment. But I must say that I was quite good in English when I went to school. I´m trying hard, so thank you again.

Vaskez 05-08-2001 05:45 PM

Yeah I always wondered how ppl on the net who don't live in English speaking countries get so good at english. The answers they have given me are: all the films, music and games are in english. Good enough I suppose, but it still impresses me.

'Mad Max' won the Best Foreign Film category at a film festival at Los Angeles. The American audience couldn't make out the Australian accent...

Worryingly, this is true.

In Norway, we teache english from the 4. year at school ( when we are 10 years old). And we have it for at least 8 years. We talk alot in english at school. But it is a littel bit difficult to write...
