can backstabs be done wit any melee weapon or does it have to be a dagger/short sword?

I believe it can be any melee in BGII.

Generally, weapons that can backstab includes:
-long sword
-short sword
-katana
-scimitar
-daggar
*I've probably missed a few...oh well, short term memory at work.....

Yeah I think any weapon can although I haven't tried all of them personally. THink of it as more of a surprise attack rather than a backstab. Someone told me they had done it with a club- a surprise attack with a club can be just as bad! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif

So I've played all the way through 2.5 times, only using short swords and daggers to backstab. Blimey I feel stupid.

For sure I know hammers cannot backstab, since I tried it with my fighter/thief with Crom Faeyr. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...les/tongue.gif

Well, like I said, I haven't tried all weapons. All I've successfully backstabbed with is long & short swords, daggers, katanas and scimitars.

staff, club

All you have to do to backstab is hide in shadows and then attack, right? Or do you have to do something else?(thieving skill, etc.)

I know that you can use short swords, long swords, scimitars, daggers, katanas, etc to backstab.

You cannot backstab with flails, maces, and hammers.

I haven't tried every weapon yet, but I would guess that you can only use thief weapons to backstab (dunno about the club).
