Has anyone ever given the fake illithium to Sarles successfully?

Sarles gets angry, you must then return to the Temple of Helm, there they then use the fake Illithium as a piece of art instead and still reward you.

When I give Sarles the fake illithium ( because I want to upgrade the Mace of Disruption ) he realizes that it is fake, and storms off, leaving me with the fake illithium.

He never realized that with me...perhaps it has something to do with charisma?

Are you sure it was the fake stuff he recieved? Because usually he rejects it, and the high watcher likes the curious shape of the fake, (like an abstact sculpture) and is happy.

P.S, I have done this with a 19 charisma char, I doubt it is. If both the real and fake were present on the group inventory, he may just have taken that instead.
