I am in the beholder maze and am having a ell of a time with these silly creatures. By the time I get close enough with my fighters, my fighters are all in very, very bad shape. I try to summon some monsters and use a few area effect/affect(?) spells but it seems I have the same result-dead party. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/frown.gif Anyhow, what are good protectant spells I should be casting on my fighters so they can get close to these creatures? or... should I just stand back and use ranged weapons and not try to melee with them? I can beat one or two but any more equals certain death.

Also give fire elementals a try, assuming you are up against beholders.

Cast a cloudkill spell into the room, then go invisible. The beholders who would normally run out the room to chase you don't see you, so they wander about, getting killed by the cloudkill. Easy as Pie.

bring an infamous Pit Fiend in. then after ur done w/ the beholders, u can kill the pit fiend for 16k exp!

Summon monsters VII as fodder then use ranged weapons protect against holds and mind spells always take them one at a time if possible sending an invisible character into area to uncover it first then give it all you've got.

I like the mosters to die by MY blade. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif But from what I am reading here that may not be possible. I guess those mages will come in handy after all. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif

If you have a level 15 cleric or mage, animate undead creates skeletal warriors that are magic resistant. These work great.

Easiest way I found to kill them is with my mages. I took one mage with me, cast Minor Spell turning on him, walked up to 1 beholder/gauth, and as soon as I see one on the screen, used my Wand of Lightning on him which shoots out 6 bolts, usually kills them with one blast. The spell turning causes them to get hit by their own Cause Crital Wounds or whatever, and the lighting finishes them. Watch out for rebounding lighting though...

What I did was I got Nalia with the Robe of Vecna to hide in shadows, fireball them, then retreat. Rinse and repeat till you get desired effect http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...les/tongue.gif
