What different quests is it possible to get given when attempting to persuade Mae'var that you're his friend?

First time round I had to steal an amulet from the priest of Talos
then kill the cowled wizard guy for edwin,
then steal the documents for edwin.

Next time I played, I had to steal something from the temple of Lathander (sp?) unfortunately I'm not very subtle so I had to wipe them out (which has subsequently screwed up the quests for Helm (following unseeing eye).

Does it depend on alignment/rep or random?

Alignment I would guess, though not sure. Nearly all my characters have nicked off Lathander, with the exception of my Lawful Good Undead Hunter. To avoid mucking up the later quest, go into the temple at night and be stealthy

bit late - they're all dead - stupid helm guy still tells me to go talk to them though. Every so often another morning guard spawns - I suppose 2000xp isn't bad.

Do you get the same quests as a non-thief char? I thought the whole point was that you could join the shadow-thieves.

The 1st quest you get from Mae'Var depends on alignment, I think. Evil chars are asked to swipe the statue from the Temple of Lathander, while neutral or good chars are asked to get the amulet from the temple of Talos.

Forgot to add - the other quests (the ones you get from Edwin) remain the same, as is Mae'Var's final one.

Actually, Mae'var's first quest is based on reputation not alignment. If you have 10 or greater, you have to get the necklace of Talos. If you are 9 or lower, you have to steal the idol from the temple of lathander (MUCH harder).
