This is the second time I've played through BG2. This time, it's with the redoubtable rakish villain, Malvolio, who came across something Tancred the Paladin missed.

I was wandering around the sewers underneath the Athkatla Slums - NOT to be confused with the sewers underneath the temple - when I came across a staircase up in the North of the level. Taking it, I arrived in a strange, plant-like room, seeing the death of a Minotaur as he was savaged by Myconids. His last words were something like regret for his fallen comrades, whose bodies were likewise strewn about the place. I battled the Myconid king and his two followers, and that was it. No secret doors, no items, no quests. Nothing. I went back down the sewer, and there seems to have been no repercussions, or indeed any point to the encounter.

Has anyone else come across this? Did they find somehting I missed? Is the Minotaur and his pals from an AD&D novel? Or is this merely a very strange invention of a designer's imagination?

Tancred, confused

Nope, just a encounter you experience in the game. Not part of a quest or anything, just a room you go to while in the sewers.

the minotaur, the slave lord and the twisted rune and other "odd" encounters are all part of a quest that was never finished.
however, that has been fixed by getting the newest bug fix at Kevin Dorner's site. and don't worry, if it wasn't what the game dev's intended, then Kevin wouldn't have fixed it. this bug fix is a massive undertaking and has corrected many many bugs that were left by our Game Gods due to time constraints. *smiles*
