Which way does everyone prefer to liberate Iomen? Paying Gaelen (and thus not angering the thieves)or Paying Bohdi and doing her quests?
Or can you do both?

I always pick the thieves* and no you cannot do both.

You have to choose one or the other; they are mutually exclusive. One is the evil path, the other is 'good' (or the lesser of two evils, if you want to look at it that way).
If I'm not mistaken, siding with the shadow thieves nets you more experience and items in the long run.
