Can anyone help me out here, I've just gone to Umar, and as soon as I get there, Edwin turns himself into a woman. But I can no longer select him. He still shows up as being in the party, but I can't use him or look at his inventory etc. He just stands there looking cute!

Is this meant to happen?

Now to the question, Edwin is supposed to turn into a woman, but if you can't select him/her after that, then it's a bug..
Have you installed the latest patch?

Thanks for the quick reply!

I believe I have installed the latest patch, BUT I did have The Darkest Day installed, and then removed it, so maybe this has caused a problem.

I might try cleanly re-installing BG2 and the patch again and see if that helps.

That should solve the problem, TDD does tend to muck up BG2 a bit.
If you re-install BG2 (remember to save your game saves) then patch it, you will be fine, hopefully. The Edwina character is awesome, Black-Isle did a whole voice-set specially for her....him.... whatever.

What everyone else said, I'm also assuming you waited a few minutes before trying anything else. (I had to wait 10 seconds for Edwina to start talking, then she rejoined the group)

WooHooo!

I re-installed it all, btu the same thing happened.
So I reformed my party and got rid of him..er I mean her
Then she wasn't interested in talking to me. Sod it.
But then a little later she talked to me and asked if I was sure I wanted her to leave, I said no and she re-joined my party.
All working OK now.
As Jerr said, it looks like I just had to wait a while.
