Is the Assasin any good in a close fight?

Byronas 10-19-2001 10:00 AM

Yes, he is quite good.

Where there are monsters and barbarians there will be Byronas fighting against them.

Sure. All you need is a good Dex to lower your AC some. When
things start to go bad, slap some poison on your blade as many
times as you can. Stab, poison, stab, poison. If you're
fighting multiple targets it works great. (Just poison a few
different people.) I've done this before and a lot of the
time, before the baddies keel over, two or three of them break
away from the fight. Poor morale and all that.

BALROGBANE 10-19-2001 10:03 AM

How good?

In comparison to other charachters?

mitsos 10-19-2001 10:23 AM

If you want your character for close combat, go pick a fighter. If you want the thieving skills as well, choose a swashbuckler.

StarVid 10-19-2001 12:21 PM

yeah, the swash is pretty uber for a thief. If you want to be in the thick of combat and single classed, I'd say be a swash (though you can't backstab). However, if you look at a swash's advantages, you're really better of being a dualed fighter(maybe kensai)/thief. Overall, I'm not to impressed with the thief kits in a practical sense, even though they sound cool. The only deal is that an assasin can poison (if the target fails its save, which is rare at high levels), a swash has some combat bonuses (though not much compared to a dualed fighter/thief who can still backstab and wear any armor). The bounty hunter looks kind of cool though. Granted, you get some nicer traps in ToB, but until you get to that level, the BH has some cool stuff.

Then again, I almost always play a spellcaster, so what do I know.

ASsassin is best.....well i think so anyway. i forget all other thieving skills and put all on stealth dual to a fighter latewr on and your laughing Madman http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...sfiring_v1.gif

Does anyone ever use traps?
I find them pretty useless, and a waste of skill points

I saw the movie, but I didn't think the action scenes were THAT good.

Ironically, Traps are one of the Thieves strong points. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif In my opinion, that is.

If not a Sorcerer casting total oblivion, then a Cavalier meting out justice. Otherwise, I think I will just be a Blade and torture my enemies with, "My Heart Will Go On".

With traps you can kill just about anything that isn't instantly an enemy (e.g. Firkragg). You just pile them around the soon-to-be-very-dead-enemy who is at present a friend. As soon as their circle changes from blue to red all the traps will go off at once, Ouch...
Note - this also works for creatures who are going to "appear" in a certain place e.g. Liches next to coffins... mentioning no names...
