When I am given training nothing happens, and when I return to the guild it just says "in training". How does one complete the training ? what is the trigger ? everyone is bloody training and no-one seems to complete it !!

Every time you level up (charactor level, not guild level) the training is considered complete and you can move on to another subject.

And also, if you are a member of multiple guilds, you can be "in training" from each of them at the same time I believe. I've had at least a couple trainings going at the same time for the same character.
