Hey guys, I'm thinking of starting over as a custom class. So which Armor skill (Heavy, Medium or light) would pay off in the long run as a major skill? I'm creating a spellcasting fighter type.
Also, do you guys consider Acrobatics or Athletics useful as major skills? And which school of magic do you think is most useful? [ 06-07-2002, 05:07 AM: Message edited by: Rimjaw ] |
Until a patch, there are only two choices for armor - Light or Heavy. The best light armor is better than all medium armors. I don't have enough play experience to tell you which is better between light and heavy though.
As for Acrobatics and Athletics, putting Acrobatics in as a minor skill has some advantages. First, its very easy to raise, making for quick experience, and it will help to raise your strength modifier at level up. Althetics doesn't go up near as fast as Acrobatics, but putting it in a minor slot will help raise it quicker. The schools of magic you use should be based on your character. Enchant is definitely a good skill to have high though. It doesn't have any spells attached to it, but it will lower the use cost of enchanted items. For instance, the health ring you get at the Census office will use 3/20 at 30 skill, 4/20 at 20 skill, and 5/20 at anything less. Alteration and Illusion are good for thieving spells, you will definitely want a high alteration for opening those level 100 locks. Mysticism is good for defensive spells. Restoration is covered by most potions, and if you specialize in magic then its high enough for you to manage with. |
heavy armor is better just because it has a larger condition rating and there are some really good rare armors that are heavy out there.
destruction is a good and fast skill to work up as well as alteration. and as for acrobatics and athletics leave them as the leftover class they gain fairly quick anyways. i have a earlier post about me making a fighter mage its a nord/crusader/apprentice(sign) if you read the post you will see i screwed up the sign, i put atronach.starts you off with 60 strength and 50 on long sword makes for a good fighter early on plus has good weight allowance makes for a good tank. |
Avenstar, could you explain what you mean by only two choices until a patch comes out? My character is a dark elf and medium armor is one of the major skills. Right now a lot of my armor is orcish armor (medium) and right now the level of the armor is 70. My character is at level 18. Curious as to that comment.

after trying out all three armor classes at one point of the game or another (started out with medium, which was one of my major skills, then switched to light when i found glass and later yet switched to heavy for some 'strength-enchanted' daedric armor) i finally decided that unarmored is the way to go. i did have an amulet of regeneration and always used health draining weapons so i didn't have to worry about taking damage in combat.
after sorting out my inventory in the latter parts of the game my encumbrance was only 25, and i even took it down to 6!! when i enchanted some shoes and a belt with constant feather. with maxed out speed and good athletics and acrobatics i was almost flying around . plus i didn't have to put up with the ugly armorplating showing through my beautiful robe . |
i got a heavy armor with a rating of 166 right now when i get hit i take no more than 2 points of gamage . right now the only thing im weak to is pooison.all i had to do was upgrade one thing not several like frudi.
