You don't really, except for isolated instances like challenging the Archmage.

Dunno why, but it's not really implemented. If you're interested in fighting duels in the Arena, I know there's a mod at Morrowindfiles.com that will let you do so. Haven't tried it myself, because I'm so bogged down in Morrowind/Tribunal/plugins I think I'm into the next decade. [img]tongue.gif[/img]

It's a mod (again) that allows you to fight in the arena. Without the mod you'll only face Trebonius and that's it. It's worth it to download that one, it gives you an exellent opportunity to train your skills. After every win, you'll face a tougher opponent.

Not only Trebonius. All the guildmaster must be bested in the arena, or at least most. Also an arena fight is involved in the main quest.

Like who ? I got NAMED thieves guildmaster, i got NAMED fightersguild master, after slaying those guys in Vivec, i never had to fight someone in the Imperial cult, and i'm not that far yet in the Imperial guards. So that leaves only Trebonius, and that one dude from house Redoran.

those are the arena duels. You can fight for other guild mastery positions, like Telvani (have to), or the Morag Tong, but they are not Arena duels.

Also I had to kill during the main quest a redoran guy. Also I had to fight someone else's champion, maybe for house hlaalu, but I'm not sure - not a grandmaster duel anyway.

You're right Kakero, but the question was about dueling in the Arena (without the Mod). The fights I listed are the only duels that I know of.
