How is an "easy" way to kill a beholder? I have found out that one is
easy to kill, but two or three....

Gedd 02-27-2002 08:49 AM

the cloak of mirroring (reflect all those cause serious wounds spells) is quite usefull or the shield of balduran (i think you can buy it from Ribald although it could be in trademeet). If you have TOB the cloak isn;t quite so good (only absorbs, doesnt reflect)

Try sending as many monsters/animals/skeletons/elementals as you can!
While they are fighting use your mages/clerics casting spells and the rest of the group with bows or that kind of weapons shooting from long distance.

Spoilers Alert!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you have the bonus merchants installed, from TOB or the bonus cd, then go to Adventurers Mart and buy the Shield of Balderan from the woman at the back of the shop. ( not the woman who sells the scrolls )

More Spoilers!!!!!!

There is also a cloak available from the Underwater city, if you choose to take the boat from Spellhold rather than the portal.

More possible spoilers!!!

I think there is also a cloak when you are escaping from Spellhold, and answering all the questions from the guardians. There is a cloak on a table in one of the rooms, you have to get it before you start talking though.

If you use any of these items, it will make beholders blindingly
easy!!

Normal Beholders, eh? Shoot at them. Use all six NPCs and shoot at it. You will be hurt, but not as often as if you charge head on. Then send you best fighter to hack away. This fighter should have a very good attack rating.

ELEMENTALS.....

beholders seem the only monsters which are intelligent... they cant be lured and they always attack party members and not summoned creatures...

the way to destroying them is elementals...

you must have an invisible character ( i use valygar hidden in shadows) so as to see the beholders... and send elementals to attack them.... my fire elemental (used jaheira to summon him) killed FOUR lesse beholders by himself....

The Shield of Balduran is the EASIEST method mentioned so far.

It reflects ALL spells back at the beholder. So..you can literally stand there and simply wait for it to kill itself by casting its Death Spell and then failing it's save when it gets reflected.

SixOfSpades 02-27-2002 10:05 PM

Yeah, I hate Beholders and the like (Gauths, Elder Orbs) simply because they're so damn SMART. I'm pretty sure they cheat, too: I needed to get by a cluster of Gauths, so I had my Mage/Thief stand out of their sight range and cast Ice Storm, to take their health down a bit. Then he went Stealth and ran back to the rest of the party, which I'd stationed more than half the screen away. He was NEVER within sight range of the enemy, but they still somehow knew exactly where he was, and were able to pursue a Stealthed enemy ALL THE WAY BACK TO MY PARTY.

Ummmmmmm.......how were they able to follow him? Were they.....cheating? If so, I'm glad, because it means I'm perfectly justified in using the Cloak of Mirroring to render my Tank immune to their attacks. (The Shield of Balduran is still too cheesy for me, though.)

shield of balduran isn't that cheesy though. because if you have other party members about, the beholders and it's relatives will attack the other party members.
