I am just curious if any of the members here have played it? The controls are quite tricky to learn but once you get used to it, it kind of grows on to you...

I just can't wait for Gothic 2. (supposedly it will be released somewhere in Nov/Dec this year.)

Gothic is in my opinion and underdog, without hype or good promotion it was almost invisible in the stores, the lack of a demo didn't help either, and as you say, tricky controls that can turn off people in the beginning.

But for those that endure, you get one of the most rewarding experiences on action oriented RPG's, with a original story (just don't pickup the soap when it fall ), well balanced combat and advance system, and a rich world full of details with one of the most credible NPC's.

Cant wait for the sequel...

Hmmm.....it got such bad reviews! Do you think the reviewers couldn't handle the interface?

Yack 05-15-2002 09:34 AM

Its kind of sad, but this days most of the magazines and big review sites are either biased due to economic reasons, or the reviewer lack a journalistic view and just act by his taste and opinion, this by no means try to undermine the work of all the people that work on magazines or review sites, but make me take the reviews and comments about games with a grain of salt.

Gothic its an excellent game, with features you still don't find in other RPG's, and the main complain you find in most reviews was the interface, well, you can actually remap the keys for the game to have a more conventional feeling.

GOTHIC ROCKS !!! Its got good graphics, a great story and great cheats !!

There is a few things that Gothic handles pretty well compare to its CRPG counterpart:

1. The world is alive - NPCs sleep and talk to each other. They also eat and equip themselves with the best weapons available. Heck, I even seen a pack of wolves attacking a scavanger and later dined on it.

2. The combat - Although not entirely user friendly, it feels more like fighting than the frantic mouse clicking combat in Diablo/Diablo II. The combo attack looks damn good too.

I bought it a few weeks ago, and have yet to really play it. I DID install it on my (now OLD) Dell PC--it is a P3/500Mhz with 256MB ram and a Geforce2 GTS 64mb and it was kinda slow.

I decided to wait until I got my new PC (2.4Ghz 512Mb Ram Geforce4 4600) and now that it arrived, I plan to install it again and play it.

Same goes for Morrowind! On my old PC, geez, it was a slideshow! :D

Good idea to wait for the new computer, games like Gothic and Morrowind (or any game with view towards the horizon) are better experienced with the longer drawing distance, climbing a hill to find out what is beyond, peek out the wizard tower, or just spot the roofs of houses in a distant town when you though you where lost, they all add tons to make a world feel more real.

BTW, any eta on the Morrowind section of Ironworks?
