There are two (at least) Train simulators on the market. Are they any good? And which one would you recommend? Are they all about driving or is it about building the railway?

I kinda enjoy these games, although there's not much action in them, just like the flightsimulator games. The only one i have so far, is Railroadtycoon, which is quite an amusing game, very hard, but amusing nonetheless. The real deal however is this baby from Microsoft. I don't have this one yet, but it's on my list of "things to get". So i can't tell you much about it, but i expect it to be a fun game, with great scenery.

RR Tycoon was a lot of fun, but as stated it's a tough game. Microsoft Train Simulator is also fun, but more from an operations POV than from a "be a tycoon". There are many different routes you can run, from local mixed freight with lots of switching duties to scheduled passenger service. Fun games both.

I know what you mean with tough. I mean it's hard enough to "survive" the business as it is, but if your trains get robbed by Al Capone, it becomes a little difficult to make profit. :D

Railroad Tycoon is definitely hard. We also have RRTycoon Deluxe which I didn't think was worth it considering what it added. I had trouble on the easiest level, didn't even try harder difficulties ;) . I found it quite fun though. RRTycoon is all about the building, and setting up trains to make you money. Are there really train driving games out there, like motor racing games? LOL I dunno how fun that would be  :D

Aelia, check the second link in my first post, i think that will answer your question. I think you can compare it a little with the flightsimulator scene. There are entire communities who set up virtual airline companies, with flights right on schedule, the whole works, just like in real life.

I think it's the same with this game. Not that i'm gonna join a community like that, i don't have the time to set up a virtual railroadcompany, and make sure all the trains run on time. :D

But just look at the screenshots, it defenitely looks very realistic.

Mmm. "Opportunity to command a 200-ton modern diesel locomotive"?? I can see that getting old pretty fast ;) . Oh! I liked Transport Tycoon! That had trains but also buses and plains and trucks as well. Like RRTycoon only with better music :D

I don't think I've ever seen a smiley " http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...ons/icon10.gif" put next to the words "Train Simulators" in the same sentence. :D

I don't get it; how can a train simulator be so exciting? ;)

Well, it isn't really exciting. It's taking your train from A to B, from B to C, and so on and on and on. Like i said, it's kinda like flightsimulator. You gotta have an interrest in trains to enjoy this game, cause there is no action whatsoever in it. But obviously a lot of people are nuts about trains, seeing there's also a large community outthere who still play with electric trains.
