Does it work on XP? It played fine on Win98, then I formatted my hd and installed Windows XP (which I find to be a much better op system than 98). Anyway, Vampire installs fine, but when I type in my CD key it says it is invalid! Now, I bought the game fair and square, the cd key is genuine and worked fine before on Win 98. I'm just wondering whether Vampire is actually designed to work under XP. I love this game, and really want to make a go at getting it to work, but if it's simply not going to work under XP then I don't want to waste my time.

So, any input? It'd be much appreciated.
Cheers.

Excellent choice dude, i recently installed it again, after finishing it only a dozen times at least. :D

I currently run XP and it works fine. So far i haven't seen a game that wouldn't run on XP. Even games produced in the DOS era work fine on XP, for instance Settlers 2, so your Vampire copy shouldn't be no problem at all.

Now go suck em dry. :D

Oh wait... you said the key doesn't work. Can't you call the store where you bought it ? I once had the same problem with a copy of John Madden football. They accidentally included a manual for the Playstation version. It was almost closing time, so they gave me a "universal" code, one that works on every Madden copy out there. Maybe you could ask for such a code ? After all, you paid fair and square for it.

Right on man. I'll give that a try. Thanks for the advice

Good news. The problem is all sorted out. After reinstalling and typing in the cd key several times the computer just accepted it, for some unknown random reason (kinda wierd really). Anyways, I've cleared out the silver mines, have been turned, and am now heading to the Cappadocian monastery with Wilhelm. Good times ahoy! :D

Do you have your game patched ? I hate it when the game only saves at the end of a level. If you patch the game, you can save whenever you want, which comes in handy when you're facing tough opponents like the Tremere Lords. It also takes care of annoying moments like NPC's who get stuck behind doors and stuff.

Happy hunting. :D

Yeah, I definately use the patch. The game is practically unplayable without. Before I formatted my hd I was up to the start of modern-day New York, there's no way I would've gotten that far if I wasn't able to save and load at my leisure This time though I'm gonna make it all the way, I've got a much faster cpu now so can crank up the graphics and special effects to full This is gonna be a real treat... :D

What a coicedence I started to play the game all over the game too. It's truly one of the best games ever. Sadly I only beaten the game through via cheating. This time I am going all the way through without cheating ONCE (got as far as to New York without cheating but at that moment got tired of the game.)

the end of the game is HARD! it took me a long time to beat the game(especially the boss), but i did it. i even thought at one point that the game isnt beatable without cheating, so i would have cheated if hadnt given myself 3 last tries. man it felt good to beat the boss fair and square ;)

Oh man, when i finally faced Vukodlak for the final battle, i was glad i upgraded my "firsestorm spell" a couple of times. It's almost impossible to come too close to him, so i let it rain fire on him from a distance. Sometimes he's so stupid to stay exactly in the same spot, and he'll be finished before you know it, but when he comes after you, you better run, or he'll get you in a frenzy and make you lose control over yourself.

I've finished it in another way too sometime, i sucked him dry, and kinda became Vukodlak myself. Too few humanity left in me. :D

I hear a really easy way to defeat Vukodlak (and any other enemy in the game) is to simply max out your 'prison of ice' discipline, freeze him, then hack the s**t outta him, making sure to re-freeze him as the spell wears off. Now, I tried this tactic on many of the other enemies in the game and it worked a treat, so maybe it really would work for Vukodlak himself. But I'm yet to go toe to toe with that bad boy, so I can't be too sure. Some day though...
