Well I got the game last night and played it for a few hours. Here are my first impressions.

The graphics are great (though on my machine I had to move to the lowest settings)

The game play is pretty smooth and fun. But.... They have completely dumbed down the game from the originals standards. No more hit locations, all weapons use the same ammo type, NO SKILLS!!!! You can change your biomod load out anytime you have spare biocanisters. Also there are only two type of biocanisters, standard and blackmarket. They can be used in any slot to upgrade or add/change any matching biomod. Also head shots are not nearly as good as they used to be. I nailed one of the cultists in the head twice to have to take him down :( I guess this has to do with the lack of hit locations, since even playing at realistic I could take several hits at close range and still be standing. In DX a fight like that would leave you dead in one shot due to the AI aiming for your head

I have to say the thing I'm most bummed about is the removal of the skills. That to me was the thing that really stood out in DX and gave it it's special flavor. The way they married FPS with skills based RPGing.

Overall all I am sort of disappointed, but I will still enjoy the game, after I take it back and try and convince the guy to let me exchange it for he XBox version

Removed skills!? What are the RPG elements?

What, no skills? Blah! Then it's not an RPG-FPS, just an FPS. Ho hum. :( :D

The RPG elements are the various factions you can join (leading to one of four endings), and how you choose your biomods. Which like I stated can be changed on a whim, as long as you have the canisiters. There are 2 standard and 1 black market biomod type available for each slot.

Thanks for the info Rokenn. I'm getting the game no matter what. Though I do like the skills from the first game.

I'm getting the game in a few hours. Can't wait! Is there anybody here that dislikes the unified ammo?

GOT IT YES YES YES!!!

The game is nice. Graphics are nice. In order to beat this game you need three things.

1)Skill- If you have no skill you won't past the first level!!
2)Wisdom- Pick your choices well.
3)Imagination- Yes imagination. In the beggining I was in this room on the rafters in the shadows. Two bad guys were walking around patrolling and stuff. I was thinking to swoop down and kill them. BUT I would receive a lot of damage. Or maybe I can use that flashbomb and make a run for the exit. This is what I did. There was this gas tank. I shot it a few times and it leaked poisinus fumes. The first guy died but the second one fled looking for me careful of getting to close to the fumes. I then aimed for his head and BLAM!! Right in the back of the head. He turned around surprisingly. I jumped up in fright and fell off the rafters and he shot me a few and I shot him a few and he died.

Another thing is that the game has stealth. There is this one mission you have to sneak past bots. (For those who played the first Deus they are one pain in the ass eh) Bullets are hardly effective on them and I didn't have much ammo. I went into the room I was in before I went into the room with the bot. (Catch that?) I was thinking and found a vent! The vent led me to another room with a bot but much closer to my goal.

Now excuse while I'll be playing the sweet game.

Lets hope to god they don't f-up Thief III. I will be EXTREMELY pissed off if they do. I'll puplicly scold them on my news page! Grrrr.

Megabot 12-10-2003 10:44 AM

It looks like they might do that Ziroc..after what i read on Ionstorms Forum in the Thief III discussion they say the game will be made for xbox first then ported to pc then this will cause the game to have small levels because of the damn xbox only have 64 mb ram..and they say the level's will be out of WATER to swim or wade trough grrrrr :(
And look at the small levels on DX:IW that also was made for xbox first then ported to pc also KOTOR have those small levels...

I can't believe Ion Storm lied when they published the system requirements: this game needs a bloody NASA supercomputer to run! At 640x480 and 1xAA the game barely runs acceptable. For all I care, they can blow Ion Storm back into the blachole they crawled out of. How dare they produce this vile garbage. I'm having ten times more fun with Gothic 2 if it wasn't for the bloody dialog-bug...... Grrrrrrr. Such great potential, even bigger waste.
